Established in 1998, Tails Pet Boutique was started as a one-of-a-kind shop for local dog and cat lovers on the Central Coast to purchase food, treats, toys and other supplies. Tails is uniquely located in the heart of the historical downtown San Luis Obispo, near the iconic Bubble Gum Alley.

Tails' owner Shelley is an avid animal lover. She dotes upon her two dogs, Fuzzy and Harley, and her rescue cat, Blue. Tails welcomes you to bring your pet into our store so they can partake in free treats and a drink of water, which are always available.  Our team will make sure to personally welcome your pet to our store with treats, attention and love.  This is how Shelley has always welcomed her pets and Tails carries on this same loving tradition. We treat your pets like family — because they are.

Shelley also owns Doggie Salon and Spa, a dog and cat grooming business in San Luis Obispo. If your pet is in need of a nail trim, bath, or a full groom we offer discounts to our preferred customers who frequent both Tails and Doggie Salon and Spa.  

At Tails Pet Boutique you will find that our team is knowledgeable about the products we carry. Whether it be a specific food condition that your dog may have, a special need, information regarding the ingredients used in our bakery items or treats, applications and durability of our toys, assisting in selecting the right size collar, harness or leash, or suggestions for beds, mats, bowls or other care supplies that your pet may need, we can help. You will find that our team has many years of experience in the industry and our members who are college students are majoring in animal sciences, which allows them to apply the principles of what they are learning toward your shopping experience.  

So if you are traveling to San Luis Obispo for the first time, or you are a frequent visitor, or better yet live locally, please bring your pet and visit us.  We would love to help you with your unique needs. If you don't have a pet, but know someone who does, we can help you with selecting a perfect pet gift. If you can't take it with you today, don't worry — in most cases we can ship our products directly to your door.
